Philippine House rejects legalizing online cockfighting, plans to criminalize it instead.
The Philippine House of Representatives committee has rejected a proposal to legalize online cockfighting (e-sabong) as a revenue replacement for lost POGO income. Instead, they plan to criminalize e-sabong with penalties of up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to P5M for operators. Senator Joel Villanueva opposes e-sabong, filing Senate Bill 1281 to prohibit all forms of online gambling, arguing social costs outweigh potential benefits.
