NZ Transport Minister Simeon Brown unveiled a $1.3bn Road Policing Investment Programme (RPIP) for 2024-2027 to enhance road safety by targeting drunk and drugged drivers. The programme aims to increase alcohol breath tests to 3.3 million per year, conduct 50,000 drug tests annually, and focus on speeding on open roads and high-risk locations. $72mn will incentivize police performance against speed, alcohol, and drug enforcement targets.
