Nigeria Union of Pensioners calls for 50% increase in minimum pension to N70,000/month, addressing low payments as low as N500.

Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) highlights plight of pensioners receiving as low as N500 monthly, calling for a 50% increase in minimum pension and for the federal government to ensure no pensioner receives less than N70,000 per month, in line with the new national minimum wage. The NUP secretary in Kaduna State, Alhassan Musa, described the situation as "pathetic", with the worst-affected being in Southern and oil-producing states. Challenges also persist for retirees under the contributory pension system, with some yet to receive their benefits.
