Mandarin proficient students can study it at a higher level in secondary school, regardless of PSLE score.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced that from 2024, students with strong proficiency in Mandarin can study it at a higher level in secondary school, regardless of their overall PSLE score. This move aims to encourage Chinese Singaporeans to use Chinese from a young age and support bilingual students with traditional Chinese values. The government will also continue supporting initiatives for preserving Chinese culture, Malay-Muslim heritage, and promoting bilingualism and local cultures in Singapore.
