Longleat Safari Park introduces a critically endangered cotton-top tamarin baby to its breeding program.
Longleat Safari Park has welcomed the birth of a critically endangered cotton-top tamarin monkey, a significant addition to the European breeding program. The newborn, whose gender is yet to be determined, is the result of five-year-old female Maxi and six-year-old male Rico's partnership. The cotton-top tamarin population has decreased due to deforestation and historical biomedical research exports. Maxi and Rico are the first breeding pair at Longleat, and their baby is part of efforts to conserve the species, which currently has approximately 6,000 individuals remaining in the wild.
