On 17 August, Tri-Cities residents reported smelling smoke and seeing ash despite recent clear air days. Air quality rose to the yellow range, but local fire departments couldn't find nearby fires. Smoke may come from an ongoing Oregon fire 2 hours SW. Brush fires in Oregon, including one that caused problems on I-84, are suspected sources.
