41-year-old John Joseph Carl, a former Pinetops police officer, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and entering a restricted building for his involvement in the January 6th Capitol riots. Carl admitted to the FBI that he pushed against Capitol Police, breached the building, and entered a U.S. senator's office. Over 1,488 individuals have been charged for crimes related to the Capitol breach, with nearly 550 charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
