Former Tangipahoa Parish Jail maintenance worker, Donald Hammons, 56, was arrested and charged with one count of malfeasance in office for allegedly taking a trustee inmate to buy weapons in 2021. After admitting to the crime, he was fired, and the weapons were surrendered. Sheriff Gerald Sticker highlighted improved security measures as a priority, following an administrative change in July.
