2021 Chinese ship allegedly damages Balticconnector pipeline, Estonian officials skeptical of storm claim.

In October 2021, a Chinese Hong Kong-registered ship, Newnew Polar Bear, allegedly caused damage to the Balticconnector pipeline, Estonia's primary natural gas supply. China claimed the incident was due to a storm, but Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur and other officials are skeptical due to lack of storm evidence. Finland and Estonia recovered the ship's anchor and continue to investigate. The pipeline was repaired for $38 million and reopened in April.
