British Columbians are cutting back on alcohol spending, leading to a decline in wholesale purchases, with $70.345m less spent on alcohol in Q2 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Beer now leads as the most spent-on category, surpassing wine; all categories experienced decreases in both total spending and volume of products purchased. Non-alcoholic wines and beers are the only category seeing an increase in sales. Inflation and higher interest rates may have contributed to the trend.
