Oklahoma Governor Stitt declines federal summer food program for 2nd year, continuing state's approach to child hunger through existing programs.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has declined to participate in the federal summer food program for the second year in a row, with the state opting not to take part in providing free meals to children during their school break. Critics, including food banks, argue that federal funds could be essential in addressing childhood hunger. However, Stitt believes the state can tackle child hunger through its existing food programs. In 2025, the summer program would have cost Oklahoma $5m, but the state would have received $50m in federal funding in return.
