3 Malaysians, Chean Wei Puah, Min Shein Yau, and Wai Lee Lock, were convicted in Auckland District Court for smuggling nearly 500,000 cigarettes, evading $675,000 in tobacco taxes. They used forged documents, involved in an organized criminal group, and will serve home detention before deportation. This is Customs' first successful conviction for an organized criminal group in a tobacco case.
