UK government convenes meeting with unions and businesses to discuss "Make Work Pay" initiative, aiming to improve working conditions and economic growth.

The UK government has convened a meeting with trade union and business representatives, launching a "new era of partnership" to discuss the "Make Work Pay" initiative. The plan aims to improve working conditions and economic growth by introducing basic rights from day one for parental leave, sick pay, and protection from unfair dismissals. The government also plans to strengthen the collective voice of workers through trade unions, create a Single Enforcement Body for employment rights, and ensure the minimum wage is a genuine living wage. The "Make Work Pay" plan includes proposals to ban zero-hour contracts, end fire and rehire practices, and introduce basic workplace rights from day one, among other measures. Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds emphasized the importance of involving business and workers in shaping government plans.
