A southern pudu fawn, the world's smallest deer species, debuts at NYC's Queens Zoo.

A southern pudu fawn, one of the world's smallest deer species, has debuted at the Queens Zoo in NYC. Born on June 21, the fawn weighs 2 lbs at birth and will grow to 15-20 lbs when fully grown. Native to Chile and Argentina, the species' population is declining due to human development, recreational activities, agriculture, invasive species, and diseases. The Queens Zoo collaborates with other zoos to maintain genetically diverse populations, having bred eight southern pudu fawns since 2005.
