President Mnangagwa attended the 7th SADC Summit, leading to street vendor displacement and financial distress.
President Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe attended the 7th SADC Summit Public Lecture, themed "Building Research Capacity and Innovation Ecosystems for a Sustainable Industrialized SADC Economy." He toured local tertiary institutions and youth exhibition stands showcasing products such as drones and power stations. The president also visited the Vehicle Registration Plate/Tag Facility at the University of Zimbabwe. However, the SADC Summit has caused financial distress for street vendors as the government cleared vendors, touts, and unregistered kombis from major cities and towns, confiscating goods that have gone bad or are difficult to restock. Critics argue the government should have provided alternative trading spaces before removing vendors from the streets.
