India appoints Govind Mohan as Union Home Secretary, succeeding Ajay Kumar Bhalla, before Assembly elections.

India has appointed senior IAS officer Govind Mohan as the new Union Home Secretary, succeeding Ajay Kumar Bhalla. Mohan, a 1989-batch Sikkim cadre IAS officer, is currently serving as the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and will join the Ministry of Home Affairs as Officer on Special Duty. His appointment comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and other states. Mohan has previously served two stints in the Ministry of Home Affairs and will be responsible for advising the Union Home Minister on administrative and policy matters.
