96-year-old Korean victim Lee Yong-soo urged the South Korean government to proactively intervene in securing compensation from Japan for wartime sexual slavery survivors. The Seoul High Court last year ordered Japan to pay compensation to 16 victims, including Lee, but Japan did not appeal the decision. With only nine surviving victims, Lee urged the South Korean government to consult with Japan on follow-up measures and take a proactive role in resolving the compensation issue while the surviving victims are still alive.
