Wisconsin DNR awarded $75,000 grants for brownfield site contamination investigations in Calumet County, Manitowoc, and Brillion.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources awarded $75,000 grants to Calumet County, Manitowoc, and Brillion for investigating environmental contamination at redevelopment sites. These brownfield sites are underused properties where contaminants hinder reuse. The funds will assist in evaluating contamination levels and developing plans to address contaminants, aiming to redevelop the properties for safe, affordable housing areas. The DNR's Wisconsin Assessment Monies Program has provided $3.3 million to 70 communities since 2009 for similar purposes.
