3 UK councils receive funding to tackle drug and alcohol crises amid increased deaths since pandemic.
Doncaster, Peterborough, and Luton Councils received £1m, £430k, and £350k respectively from the UK government to address their growing drug and alcohol crises. This funding is part of a £266.7m plan to support 317 local authorities in England, with a focus on inpatient detoxification services for the first time since 2012. The additional funds follow a spike in drug and alcohol-related deaths since the pandemic.
