Ugandan businesswoman Deborah Kigongo wins legal battle against Kenya Revenue Authority, court orders KRA to pay $40,000 for illegally selling her goods.

Ugandan businesswoman Deborah Kigongo has won a long-running legal battle against Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) after a Kenyan appeals court found KRA sold Kigongo's goods illegally. Kigongo's goods, worth $120,000, were auctioned by KRA after one container disappeared from Mombasa port. The Kenya Court of Appeal has ordered KRA to pay Kigongo $40,000, equivalent to the cost of the goods sold, along with costs incurred in the 13-year legal battle. This case raises questions about the role of the East African Community in protecting traders within the bloc.
