2021 North Korean crop output threatened by floods and pests due to heavy rains, per FAO.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warns that floods and increased pest infestations due to heavy rains in North Korea could threaten the country's 2021 crop output. Above-average precipitation and temperatures may cause waterlogging, flooding, and agricultural damage. In July, heavy rains inundated large areas of North Phyongan and Jagang provinces, with potential death tolls surpassing 1,000. The FAO estimates North Korea's 2020 crop production at 4.82 million tons, still below the 5.76 million tons required to feed the population.
