A compilation album, "Why Don't You Smile Now: Lou Reed at Pickwick Records 1964-65," will be released this fall featuring Lou Reed's music before the formation of the Velvet Underground. The album, featuring previously unreleased material, rare songs, and cult classics, will be released digitally on September 27 and physically on October 4. It will be available in standard black vinyl, oxblood, and gold vinyl options, and includes a booklet containing unseen photos and essays by Patti Smith Group co-founder Lenny Kaye and music journalist Richie Unterberger. The album is a collaboration between Reed's widow, Laurie Anderson, and the Lou Reed Archive.
