2022-23 Ligue 1 season starts amid financial crisis due to TV rights drop to €500m p.a.

Ligue 1's first season post-Mbappe starts amid a financial crisis due to a significant drop in TV rights. The French Football League (LFP) settled for a new domestic TV deal worth €500m a year, substantially lower than the previous €624m, and further behind top leagues like the English Premier League and Spain's La Liga in broadcast income. The league's president, Vincent Labrune, had aimed for €1bn a year, but the domestic deal leaves Ligue 1 struggling financially.
