Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office launches "Victim's Voice Initiative" to strengthen legal response to violent gun crimes, sex crimes, and crimes against children. Stricter policies include no personal recognizance bonds, no release for treatment, and no plea bargains reducing felonies to misdemeanors for defendants charged with these offenses. Prosecuting Attorney Debra Rusnak believes these changes enhance fairness, protect victims, and provide better justice. The initiative also creates five new supervisory positions to improve communication and resources for circuit attorneys.
