2022 IFS report finds budget grocery prices rose 29.1% for poorer households vs 23.5% for wealthier ones during the cost-of-living crisis.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) report revealed that budget grocery prices have risen by 29.1% for poorer households during the cost-of-living crisis, compared to a 23.5% increase for wealthier households. The cheapest grocery items saw a 36% price increase, while luxury items rose by 16%. This disparity in inflation rates is attributed to the sharpest price increases falling on cheaper brands, with the poorest 25% of households experiencing an additional £100 annually in food expenses.
