HMP Stirling's SRU unit design criticised for affecting local residents; prison proposes improvements and repurposing.

HMP Stirling, a Scottish women's prison, has been criticised for its design due to noise and anti-social behaviour affecting local residents. The Separation and Reintegration Unit (SRU) for challenging inmates was found to be located too close to nearby homes, leading to complaints. The prison has developed a six-point plan to address the issue, which includes better ventilation and a new hedge to obscure views of the unit. Inspectors have recommended repurposing parts of the prison and using other jails' segregation units to solve the problem.
