1 in 4 European cancer survivors face financial discrimination despite being cancer-free.
A study by Queen's University Belfast found that 1 in 4 Europe cancer survivors face financial discrimination when seeking loans, mortgages, and insurance, even after being declared cancer-free. Over half a million cancer survivors in the UK could be experiencing this issue, prompting calls for a 'right to be forgotten' for cancer survivors. France introduced such a law in 2016, allowing long-term survivors to not disclose their cancer history after 5 years without recurrence. Seven other European countries have since implemented similar measures.
