Western Kansas corn production faces challenges due to heatwave and lack of moisture, forcing fields to be replanted with wheat.

In western Kansas, an extreme heatwave and lack of moisture are affecting corn production, with several fields being plowed under and potentially replanted with wheat. The USDA's weekly conditions report shows 46% of Kansas corn rated good to excellent, but farmers in the region urgently need rain to replenish soil moisture. In Kentucky, corn crop conditions have declined to 65% good to excellent due to below-normal precipitation and temperatures, while soybean conditions remain steady at 64% good to excellent. In Nebraska, corn and soybean conditions have remained relatively stable despite a lack of adequate moisture, with high percentages of crops in the silking, dough, and dented stages.
