On Pakistan's 78th Independence Day, President Asif Ali Zardari granted a 90-day sentence remission to elderly and juvenile prisoners who have served one-third of their term, excluding those convicted for murder, espionage, anti-state activities, rape, theft, robbery, kidnapping, and terrorism. Those eligible include male prisoners aged 65 and above, female prisoners aged 60 and above, female prisoners serving with their children, and juveniles under 18 who have completed one-third of their imprisonment. Excluded are those convicted under the Foreigners Act 1946, Narcotics Control (Amendment) Act 2022, and those involved in financial crimes causing national loss.
