Nigeria marks DICON's 60th anniversary, plans self-sufficiency in military hardware production.

Nigeria's Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) marks its 60th anniversary, with the country's Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, stating that Nigeria is set to become self-sufficient in the production of military hardware. DICON, established in 1964, has played a crucial role in Nigeria's defense sector, collaborating with indigenous companies and focusing on military manufacturing. The new DICON Act 2023 aims to contribute to national development and security by boosting local production of defense equipment, creating jobs for skilled Nigerians, and reducing capital flight to foreign nations. DICON will inaugurate the maiden Africa Defence Industries Conference (ADIC) during the anniversary celebrations, providing a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to collaborate and share insights on future frontiers of defense technology in Africa.
