New Zealand government introduces Traffic Light System and reforms to reduce Jobseeker Support recipients by 50,000 by 2030.

New Zealand's government has introduced a new Traffic Light System and reforms aiming to move more people off Jobseeker Support and increase consequences for those who fail to meet their benefit obligations. Changes include extending the period for obligation failures to count against beneficiaries from 12 months to two years, requiring Jobseeker Support recipients to reapply every six months, and making it mandatory for all beneficiaries with work obligations to have a jobseeker profile before receiving benefits. The reforms are expected to reduce the number of people on Jobseeker Support by 50,000 by 2030, saving $2.3 billion in welfare payments.
