JNU Teachers' Association initiates 24-hour hunger strike and dharna over alleged discriminatory faculty appointments and promotions under CAS.

JNU Teachers' Association initiates 24-hour hunger strike, dharna protesting against JNU administration's alleged high-handed, arbitrary, and discriminatory approach towards faculty appointments and promotions under Career Advancement Scheme (CAS). Protestors claim promotions stalled, discriminate based on social/religious background, academic/ideological positions, and criticisms of JNU administration. JNUTA sees issues as symptoms of larger problems including centralization of powers, lack of transparency, and politically-ideologically oriented government intervention, eroding university's statutorily granted autonomy.
