Delhi Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, has instructed the General Administration Department to arrange for Education Minister Atishi to hoist the national flag on India's Independence Day at Chhatrasal Stadium. This decision comes after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently in Tihar Jail, requested that Atishi take on the flag-hoisting responsibilities on August 15th. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the plan, suggesting that Kejriwal should resign and appoint Atishi as Delhi's Chief Minister.
