Menopause expert urges free mid-life health checks and HRT for women aged 45-64 to reduce healthcare costs and alleviate financial burden.

Menopause expert Loretta Dignam, CEO of The Menopause Hub, calls for free mid-life health checks and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for women aged 45-64 in the upcoming budget. Early detection of health issues related to menopause could save the state millions by reducing visits to GPs and hospitals, according to Dignam. Providing free HRT and mid-life health checks would also alleviate the financial burden on women who spend more on menopause-related treatments than men. The Health Service Executive estimates that at least €4.1 million is needed to provide free HRT for women already receiving it under state schemes.
