India advances ethanol blending target to 2025-26, aiming to reduce petrol imports, boost farmers' profits, and conserve environment.

India plans to advance its ethanol blending target from 2030 to 2025-26, as announced by Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Amit Shah. The decision aims to reduce the nation's petrol import bill, increase sugar mills and farmers' profits, and contribute to environmental conservation. To achieve this, Shah urged sugar cooperatives to ensure 100% ethanol production in sugar mills within two years, set up multi-dimensional biofuel production plants, and increase efficiency in existing sugar mills. The announcement follows the cabinet's approval of the modified Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN Yojana, which focuses on providing remunerative income for farmers, addressing environmental pollution, creating local employment opportunities, and contributing to India's energy security and self-reliance.
