"Flights of Pioneers: The Waterbird Project", a new aviation exhibition honoring UK's first water-based flights on Lake Windermere, opens on August 27.
A new aviation exhibition, "Flights of Pioneers: The Waterbird Project," opens on August 27 at Windermere, Lake District, celebrating the first water-based flights in the UK on Lake Windermere. The exhibition marks the 28th anniversary of the last seaplane flight at Windermere and honors the development of aviation in the UK and a flying boat factory during WWII. The event is linked to the nearby "From Auschwitz to Ambleside" exhibition, which tells the story of survivors of Nazi death camps who settled in Cumbria after WWII. The Waterbird Project will also host two flying displays on September 6 and 7 featuring the award-winning replica seaplane and a modern seaplane, the Aviat Husky. Entry to the exhibition is free.
