A fell runner died after slipping into Pillar Cove in Ennerdale valley, Lake District, during a descent from Pillar to Kirk Fell on August 6. Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called in, but HM Coastguard Rescue 199 couldn't assist due to low cloud cover. The body was found at Great Doup in Pillar Cove, and a challenging evacuation followed, involving six members of the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team. The Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team expressed their condolences to the fallen runner's companion, family, and friends, and thanked Coastguard Rescue 199 and Wasdale MRT for their support and assistance.
