Chinese EV maker XPeng unveils its electric flying taxi prototype, X2, at Melbourne's Electric SUV Expo, sparking interest in Australia as a potential frontrunner for futuristic air taxi technology. The X2, featuring eight battery-powered motors, a top speed of 130 km/h, and a flight time of 35 minutes, is one of the first eVTOL vehicles showcased in Australia. Other companies, including Joby Aviation, have applied for permits to fly eVTOLs in the country. Air taxi regulations are still being developed in Australia, and the safety authority is working on a roadmap for the industry. Flying taxis could revolutionize transportation in rural and regional areas, as well as offer solutions for emergency services and tourism.
