The US Coast Guard Academy has overhauled its basic training, known as "swab summer", in response to a sexual abuse scandal. Changes include cadre reading from a prepared script and increased oversight, with drill instructors from Training Center Cape May mentoring them and outside experts discussing power dynamics. This follows seven actions taken, including the establishment of professional victim advocates to train students on sexual harassment, assault, and rape.
