UK's Transport Secretary approves CrossCountry's 3-month reduced timetable amid dire service.
UK's Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh, has approved a three-month reduced timetable for train operator CrossCountry, despite describing its service as "dire". CrossCountry announced on 31 July that it would temporarily reduce services on several major routes between 10 August and 9 November. The company has blamed a backlog of driver training for its poor performance, and has promised to implement a remedial plan to improve services. If CrossCountry fails to deliver, Haigh warns she will take further action under the contract.
