TransAlta, Alberta authorities agree on temporary river flow for Kananaskis Whitewater Park to protect local economy and jobs.

TransAlta and Alberta authorities agreed to ensure water flow for whitewater rafting events on the Kananaskis River, which faced potential cancellation due to TransAlta's hydroelectric dam operations changes. The Kananaskis Whitewater Park, established in 1984, has contributed $32M annually to the local economy and provided hundreds of jobs. A temporary agreement provides daily river flow of 27 cubic meters per second from 2-4 p.m. from July 31 to September 15.
