Task force recommends preserving the Clotilda slave ship underwater due to decay.

A report by a task force of archaeologists, engineers, and historians has recommended that the last known intact U.S. slave ship, the Clotilda, should remain underwater due to its current state of decay. The Clotilda, which transported enslaved Africans to Alabama in 1860, was discovered in 2019. The task force suggests that the ship should be protected underwater in order to preserve its physical evidence of the crimes committed.
