Separatist leader Yasin Malik, convicted of terror funding, will argue against NIA's appeal for a death penalty in Delhi High Court on Sept 19.

Yasin Malik, a separatist leader and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief, is set to argue for himself against the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) appeal seeking the death penalty in a terror funding case. Malik, who is serving a life sentence, has refused the court's suggestion to appoint a lawyer. The Delhi High Court has listed the case for hearing on September 19 and advised Malik to consider having legal representation. Malik was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in May 2022 for terror funding charges. The NIA has appealed for the death penalty, arguing that terrorists cannot avoid capital punishment by choosing not to go through trial and pleading guilty.
