Greece reduced natural gas imports from Azerbaijan in May 2024 by 23.5%, spending €52.6M, down from €68.8M in May 2023, according to Eurostat. Imports declined 0.2% to nearly 94 million cubic meters, while Azerbaijan exported 461 million cubic meters to Greece from January to May 2024, valued at €252.3M, a reduction from 488.7M cubic meters worth €465.7M in the same period of 2023. The Southern Gas Corridor, launched on Dec 31, 2020 aims to transport gas from the Caspian Sea region to European nations via Georgia and Turkey, with the EU and Azerbaijan agreeing in July 2022 to double gas supply to 20 billion cubic meters by 2027.
