The European Environmental Agency (EEA) reports excellent water quality at most European bathing sites, with Croatia having the cleanest sea water, followed by Cyprus, Greece, and Slovenia. Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland, and Romania share the top spot for inland waters. Cyprus ranks first overall for cleanest waters, followed by Austria and Croatia. The Seine's water quality improved after a $1.5bn cleanup for the Olympics.
