67-year-old Kent Smith died in a crash at U.S. 40 and Indiana 240 in Putnam County, Indiana. Smith failed to observe an oncoming westbound Ford pickup truck while attempting to go eastbound on U.S. 40 from southbound Indiana 240. The pickup's driver, Charlie Slicer Jr., tried evasive maneuvers but was unable to avoid the collision. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors. Indiana State Police are investigating.
