37-year-old father Christopher Scholtes pleads not guilty to first-degree murder after his daughter dies from heat exposure in a hot car.

37-year-old Christopher Scholtes, father of a 2-year-old girl who perished from heat exposure after being left in a hot car for up to four hours, pleaded not guilty in Pima County Superior Court to an elevated charge of first-degree murder. The incident, which occurred on July 9, saw Scholtes face additional charges of child abuse. Despite the medical examiner ruling her cause of death as environmental heat exposure and her manner of death an accident, Scholtes now confronts first-degree murder charges.
