A rusted hand grenade found in a field near A167 Park Road North in Chester-le-Street led to a three-hour road closure. Workmen discovered the unexploded device during landscaping works, prompting the safety cordon and eventual detonation by explosive ordnance disposal experts. The road reopened after 3pm, and Durham Constabulary confirmed the incident.
