Port of Aberdeen begins £4m ($5m) shore power project for Scotland's largest commercial system, reducing carbon emissions by 80%.

The Port of Aberdeen has begun a £4m ($5m) shore power project, constructing Scotland's largest commercial shore power system. This "cold-ironing" system will supply clean electricity to vessels at seven berths, reducing carbon emissions by over 80% compared to marine gas oil usage when vessels shut off their engines. The project, set to be completed in March 2025, is a public-private partnership involving various stakeholders, and is part of the port's plan to invest £55m over 10 years to become the UK's first net-zero port.
