Energy efficiency expert Chris Mardon urges New Zealand to reinstate incentives for low-energy devices, citing climate and economic benefits.

Energy efficiency expert Chris Mardon argues that New Zealand should reinstate incentives to encourage households and businesses to invest in low-energy devices. Restoring these incentives could reduce electricity prices, help meet climate goals, and benefit consumers and the economy. Ecobulb managing director suggests that incentivizing investment in LED lights and heat pumps would lower energy consumption and carbon emissions, and reduce the winter peak load by 340MW while saving consumers $176 million per year. Mardon notes that previous government policies promoting energy efficiency have been dismantled.
